Scanos is designed to keep configuration simple and exposure limited.
Data handling model
- The extension uses your VirusTotal API key to authenticate lookups.
- Reputation checks focus on hovered destinations needed for scanning.
- Browsing context not required for scanning should not be collected.
Key protection expectations
- Store your API key only in trusted browser profiles.
- Do not share screenshots that expose the full key.
- Regenerate the key if a device or profile is compromised.
Operational security notes
- Keep browser and extension versions up to date.
- Use endpoint protection and safe-browsing controls alongside Scanos.
- Treat all external links as untrusted until validated.
